Phillip Hocker Design Portfolio
As a designer, my goal is to create beautiful and elegantly functional products. I’m heavily inspired by my interest in nature and science fiction. Particularly the set design in Star Trek and Star Wars as well as the microscopic world around us. Both of these inspirations fuel my optimism about the future and motivates me to create for the purpose of improving our world.
Background
Raised in Cupertino I have been immersed in technology from an early age. Shaping a natural curiosity for how things work and how they can be improved. My experience as an automotive technician gave me a hands on understanding of complex systems, and materials. This experience grounds my design approach in practicality as much as aesthetics.
As an industrial designer I aim to create products that are both elegant and highly functional, with a strong emphasis on the human experience. My work draws inspiration from the efficiency and beauty of the natural word. Yet my main influences draw from the imaginative futures envisioned in science fiction set design. These influences combine form, function, and storytelling together to create environments that feel both aspirational and believable.
This blend of influences fuels my optimistic view of the future that is the core of my design philosophy: to create thoughtful solutions that enhance everyday life, and to bridging imagination and reality through purposeful design.
